Exploring an Unusual Steam Demo: Guiding a Turdy Character on a Quest to Find the Toilet
Steam Next Fest is in full swing, and enthusiasts have encountered numerous entertaining independent titles. But, one is particularly notable for its unconventional concept. Called Unko Technica, this retro-inspired jumping adventure lets you play a hero that is literally a piece of poop trying to navigate to a commode. For those curious, "Unko" means "poop."
Player controls is straightforward: you only need a one button to leap. Across 150 challenges, you'll face tough enemies and access a market to acquire customizations for your poop character.
Plan your jumps precisely, since one mistake means starting over. Leap using bubbles to hurl yourself upward, cross crumbling ledges, and interact with buttons to open new areas. Gather coins and use them on tougher stages where gameplay ramps up.
Graphically, the game features vibrant stages and an amazing music score. Its minimalist graphics with morphing abstract forms evokes memories of gamers of old favorites like Earthbound.
Although difficult to name previous releases where you control a dung character, gaming frequently featured fecal matter. For instance, in Death Stranding, players make throwables from character excrement. Titles such as Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved utilize dung as fertilizer. Naturally, such content appears a lot in Obsidian's role-playing game The Stick of Truth.
Regardless of its silly concept, Unko Technica has already received impressive awards, like winning at Bandai Namco's indie contest in 2023. The demo is available at present on Steam, with the final release set to debut on computers this November.
